We are looking to add a Quality Engineer to the Material Control Laboratory team. This position is for an Engineer to perform metallographic evaluations of major rotating hardware for various manufacturing special processes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for metallurgical sample preparation, evaluation, disposition, and quality documentation of materials and processes. Interpretation of blueprints, specifications, procedures, and laboratory manuals to assess what testing is required and conformance to requirements is a critical aspect of this position.
Key Responsibilities:
• Read and interpret hardware blueprints to support accurate cut-up plans for evaluation of machining processes and part manufacturability.
• Perform metallographic evaluations and documentation of various special manufacturing processes, including heat treating and plasma spray coatings.
• Regular interaction with Production Operations personnel as well as other Engineering disciplines to help respond to metallurgical issues and develop effective root cause and corrective action for manufacturing-related issues.
• Provide clear, concise, and accurate lab reports. Maintain records and retain prepared samples according to procedure. Monitor testing frequency of all processes.
• Develop and maintain evaluation sheet(s) for all tested parts.
• Support shop investigations of various parts and process related problems. Position may require travel for training purposes and occasional off-shift coverage needs based on business requirements. Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a Material Sciences, Metallurgy, or Engineering discipline and 2+ years prior relevant experience, or Advanced Degree in relevant discipline and no experience. Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience in the area of metallurgical testing, evaluation, and documentation • Familiarity with microscope evaluation techniques including brightfield, darkfield, and polarized light microscopy
• Strong proficiency in the use of hand tools and laboratory testing equipment (primarily Struers)
• Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes such as milling, turning, welding and coatings
• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with a commitment to accuracy
• Knowledge of and hands-on experience with root cause investigations, corrective action activities, and problem solving in a manufacturing environment
• Working knowledge of AS9100 requirements
• Experience with Unigraphics, NX, Teamcenter, Solumina and SAP
